Barnadown & Glandoran

Sacramento and Kylie

Saturday was another busy day with seven horses to jump at Barnadown – Jackson and Rio had an early morning ride & wash before we left as both ran Sunday at Glandoran. At Barnadown we brought a full load of four and five year olds to jump, along with William Ryan’s six year old Maria Sophia. First off was the Nichols’ and Kylie’s Harbor Master at his second outing where he jumped in the .90m. He was an absolute saint his first time out last week at Coilog, and continued on with good behavior at Barnadown – a little distracted a couple times as is the way with four year olds! He’ll do a couple more shows and cross country schools and then have a well deserved holiday for a month or so out in the field. Marily Power’s four year old Womanizer mare, Cornascriebe Sumas Flirt, goes around like a seasoned veteran already and jumped a great round in the 1.0m. She also will have a well deserved break out on grass before long. Caroline Teltsch’s five year old Ars Vivendi mare, Santiago Bay, jumped well in the 1.0m but for one green moment – she only had a few shows under her belt last year as a four year old and has made huge strides already this season, she has the ability to do anything and the step to match, all she’s lacking at the moment is mileage in the ring. Hopefully she will get a cross country school in this week to see what she thinks of that! The two well seasoned five year olds of the yard, Moonhall and Caraghs Vivendi,  jumped in the 1.10m for their first trip against the clock, and both absolutely ate up the track getting better the more they were tried. After a few 1.20m’s Donnacha jumped the two in the 1.10m for a confidence booster before the next Dublin qualifiers. Last of the five year olds, the OBOS Quality mare of Donnacha’s and Charlie Carter’s, Ballyquirke Quality, is another lacking mileage but with no shortage of jump. She came out fresh Saturday and jumped well but for a green rail early on in the 1.10m. Lastly William Ryan’s six year old Maria Sophia jumped another dependable double clear in the 1.10m, she is another that’s more than ready for some bigger questions and has become so reliable in the past year. A good days jumping Saturday was capped off by another great day Sunday with the two grays off eventing in Gorey at the Chapman’s Glandoran. Neither of the horses had a stellar dressage test but were on good behavior, the jumping however was fantastic and both were foot perfect in the show jumping and cross-country. The CNC** was a tough track with plenty of questions and once again Sacramento stepped up to the plate and went around like a seasoned campaigner. He jumped a super and easy clear around the show jumping to cap off another solid event under his belt finishing in 7th. It’s hard to believe he hasn’t even been eventing a year yet! Rio ran in his third event, going well in the Pre Novice. There were plenty of questions and lots to do and he really put in a solid effort and certainly finished the course a better horse. He had an easy trip around the show jumping as well to finish on his dressage score in 8th out of 30. He’ll be back show jumping next week before his next event at Monart in two weeks, while Jackson has a few handy weeks ahead full of dressage practice and gallops before the CIC** at Kilguilkey the first week of July. Saturday all will be back in action again with more show jumping!
